How
the heck did he get here? Would you believe he grew up never
caring about taking pictures? Would you believe that he's got
master's degree in Electrical Engineering yet he never worked
in the field? Would you believe that it was in 2003 when he
got his first camera? Would you believe he got his first paid
photography gig 3 weeks after he'd learnt how to use the damn
thing? Seriously, this is all true. He absolutely loves photography.
He loves it so much that he refused to take any photography
classes. He believes art is a subjective form and as such no
one can tell you if this is good art or bad art. As some say
"One Man's Pooh is Another Man's Cake" and so he,
not willing to get influenced by some tutor, decided to pace
his own way. Photography teachers, according to him, would teach
you to create art the way they like it, thus making your work
their clone. You take a picture they don't happen to like it
so they'll pull an article on you where it states that what
you did is incorrect. On the other hand, if you take the picture
they like, you will be praised and bit by bit you will do it
the way they shaped you. Not
wanting to be what teachers make you, wasn't the only reason
he refused to take photography education. As rebellious as he
is, he would intentionally break all the rules, just to be different.
You teach him how to do photography correctly, and he'll go
and do it the opposite way on purpose. But to him, doing things
exact opposite of right, was no different than doing it opposite
of wrong. If you follow certain pattern, your work becomes predictable
whether the pattern you follow involves correct techniques or
not. So he decided not to get any photography education, he
doesn't know what is wrong and what is right, he only follows
his instincts and what he chooses to follow and this way he
was able to develop his unique style. Not his teachers, not
somebody else's - his own.
